‘The rebirth of Chen Wen Hsi’s former residence: bringing the rare murals at 5 Kingsmead Road back into view’

Ng Siang Ping, ‘In a rapidly evolving city, the traces of history and art are often swept away by the tide of development. No. 5 Kingsmead Road—the former residence of pioneering Singaporean artist Chen Wen Hsi—is the only private residence in Singapore listed as a historical site under both the “Culture and Community” and “Arts” categories. Within its walls, Chen’s rare hand-painted murals are carefully preserved, while the interior design and art collection continue to echo his life and creative spirit. Though the residence has since changed ownership, it has been lovingly cared for by two successive art-loving homeowners, allowing it to be reborn with new vitality.’
